Officers sacked over illegal auction of Army cars

The Department of Army Transportation (DAT) has sacked officers over the illegal auction of more than 1,100 Army cars sold using nine forged DAT documents, an Army spokesman revealed yesterday.

Colonel Winthai Suvaree said that the DAT had found irregularities in auction documents related to Army cars. Officers had submitted the documents to the Department of Land Transport (DLT), which led to a thorough examination that identified nine documents involving total sales of 1,136 Army cars.
After careful inspection, it was found that all the documents were forged, Winthai said. The details of the cars, such as the engine and the identification numbers, did not match those of the Army, he said.
The authorities’ signatures found in the documents were also fake, Winthai added. During the time covered by the documents, the DAT did not put any cars up for auction, he added.
The DAT had brought strongest disciplinary punishment against all involved, and sacked them from the Army, the spokesman said. The number of officers involved has not been disclosed.
In the meantime, the DLT is tracking down the cars involved in the fraud to prevent or overturn illegal registration.
