Plant owner Rabin Wongmusa said he saw some smoke before his workers started running out for their life.
“They said it’s not possible to put out the blaze. Rubber sheets are very flammable,” he said.
There were more than 10,000 tons of rubber sheets at the plant when the fire raged through.
Rabin denied speculation that he might have set the blaze to claim compensation from an insurer in the face of a sluggish rubber market.
Police who inspected the scene said it was very likely that the fire started from a short circuit.
