The tree, of a species known popularly as a “suicide tree”, also pulled down several power poles.
The 10.30am incident on Bung-Pak Ruam road in Tambon Bo Win also caused severe traffic jams as officials rushed to cut power as a safety precaution.
Large saws were required to clear away the big tree. It took two hours to clear the scene and for traffic flows to return to normal.
Provincial Electricity Authority officials are expected to have replaced the damaged power poles by Friday evening.
