Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport reopened

Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport, which had been hit by heavy floods and closed since late last week, reopened on Sunday morning after water was drained from the runway and essential systems were checked.

Experts repaired and tested the lighting system for aircraft navigation and related systems on Saturday, said Darun Saengchai, director-general of the Airports Department.
Officials also tested the runway strength using a falling weight deflectometer, and verified that the runway was still in a good condition.
The airport was closed on December 7 after floodwater submerged the end of Runway 19, resulting in damage to six lights required for aircraft navigation.
