Bangkok firemen remove snakes
Fireman Phinyo Pukphinyo walks inside the animal shelter at Bang Khen Fire Station in Bangkok with a snake in a container on Tuesday.
According to the Bangkok Fire and Rescue Department, there have been more than 30,000 animal invasion calls this year, averaging between 2,000 and 3,000 calls per week.
Calls to remove snakes and other animals from homes have dramatically surpassed fire alarms, the department added.
Most of the creatures do not pose a risk to people and after being rescued by firefighters they are taken to wildlife shelters and eventually freed in the wild.
According to reports, wildlife encounters in Bangkok are rising as the city is expanding into more wildlife areas.
