Four killed in pickup accident

A pickup truck reportedly lost control on a curve, crossed the traffic island in the middle of the road, and crashed into another pickup truck on the opposite lane, killing four people in Krabi province.

The accident occurred on Tuesday night on Phetchakasem Road, on the Nuaklong-Klongthom route. Nuaklong police found a grey pickup truck with Phang Nga licence plates in the roadside drain. The front of the vehicle was almost completely destroyed.

Police recovered the bodies of the Thanapon Leelasuthaporn, 38, Malisa Ponlakarn, 40, and their 10-year-old son Wisarat Leelasuthaporn. The three are natives of Krabi.
Chaiyakorn Leelasuthaporn, 6, the only family member who survived the accident had injuries on his forehead and bruises on his body.
Police also found the body of 44-year-old Pornthip Jit-Aksorn, who seemed to have been flung out from the accident impact, while his pickup crashed into a drain. Pornthip was the only person in that vehicle.

Initial investigation by police suggested that the pickup truck of the family of four was driving from Koh Lanta district to Nuaklong district when the driver, Thanapon, lost control on the curve and hit Pornthip’s pickup on the opposite side of the road.
According to the police, the curve has been a dangerous area for drivers in the region.
