Third Narathiwat fire bomb ‘a dud’, shop saved
Insurgents who carried out two simultaneous arson attacks in Narathiwat’s Muang district also planted a third explosive device that failed to ignite a fire, police said.
Police learned of the third homemade bomb at 10.30am on Saturday when Kham Rojkaew, who owns a low-price goods shop near the Clock Tower in Narathiwat downtown, called police.
Kham said he heard the sound of an explosion and found a briefcase among the pillows and blankets in his shop, so he called police.
Police found that the briefcase contained a digital watch that was wired to a fuse and dry alcohol. The bomb detonated but it failed to light the alcohol to cause a fire, police said.
Pol Captain Pollawat Thepsorn, deputy chief of bomb disposal unit, said the timer on the digital watch was supposed to cause a circuit to generate heat and light the fuse, but this one was faulty.
