Phayao village appeals for donations for poor boy admitted to medical school

A schoolboy from a poor family has passed an entrance examination to study at Chiang Mai University’s Medical School, prompting a village head to step forward and ask for public support.

Kiartichai Techawong, village head of Ban Sanjokpok in Tambon Dok Khamtai of Phayao’s Dok Khamtai district on Friday urged the public to donate to a scholarship for Jaraspong Fongkham, 19.
Kiartichai said he has asked for a donation of Bt10,000 from friends in the Kamnan-Village Heads Club to give to the boy as a starter fund.
Kiartichai said Jaraspong finished Grade 12 from Dok Khamtai Witthayakhom School and sat for an entrance exam under the Inclusive Track programme of Chiang Mai University and earned a seat in the Faculty of Medicine.
His family is poor so he had no money to sign up for tutoring classes. Yet he bought entrance exam preparation textbooks to study on his own, the village head added.
The first scholarship of Bt10,000 from the club was given to the boy by Dok Khamtai district chief Sakchai Chotimanon at the school on Friday.
