Crowds on Friday afternoon lined the roads around the Royal Palace to welcome His Majesty King as he presides over a royal merit-making ceremony at the Temple of the Emerald Buddha.

The event marks Asalha Puja Day and the beginning of Buddhist Lent.
The crowds, mostly wearing yellow shirts, carried His Majesty's portrait and waved the national flag. Many had camped on the pavements in the hope of catching a glimpse of the monarch.
