Interior Minister Gen Anupong Paochinda is off to Koh Samui to see what the stink is all about.

He announced the trip on Wednesday after a Japanese news agency reported a stench wafting over the island, which is an international tourist magnet, from 300,000 tonnes of garbage piling up there.
Anupong said the garbage had been accumulating since a new disposal plant went into operation, but he’d be there next week to discuss urgent measures with the governor of Surat Thani province.
