Kratom lands migrant worker in trouble on Samui

A migrant worker from Myanmar was charged on Koh Samui on Wednesday morning with possession of kratom, an intoxicating herb he’d mixed into drinks.

Ye Htet Zaw, 25, was arrested at construction workers’ living quarters in Moo 4, Samui district, during a routine visit by Immigration police and soldiers.
They decided Ye was behaving suspiciously and noticed the two bottles of brown liquid he was holding.
A test established the liquid was made from kratom leaves (Mitragyna speciosa), a Category 5 narcotic. They even found the pot he used to brew up his potion.
Ye said he worked as a house cleaner and came to stay at the camp with his friend, with whom he bought his kratom leaves at a grocery store.
