PM and his four ministers urged to clarify their political stances now Royal Decree issued

Thai Raksa Chart Party leader on Wednesday called for the prime minister to clarify if he will be running in the upcoming elections now that the Royal Decree has been issued.

Preechapol Pongpanich also called for four ministers, who also hold executive positions in a political party, to get into the spirit of things and announce their political decision.
“It is time for the prime minister and his four ministers to inform the public about their political ambitions. The PM should clarify whether he is going to compete in the elections,” Preechapol said.
Now that the decree has been issued, the Election Commission (EC) has to hold an election within 60 days.
Preechapol said Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and his four ministers should not need advice on their next step and if they take a clear stance, then the EC will be able to organise a transparent and fair national poll.
The four ministers in question are Industry Minister Uttama Savanayana, Commerce Minister Sontirat Sontijirawong, Science and Technology Minister Suvit Maesincee and Prime Minister’s Office Minister Kobsak Pootrakool. All four are part of Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak’s economic team and play a key part in the Palang Pracharat Party.
The party plans to nominate General Prayut as its prime ministerial candidate in the next general election.
The ministers had earlier rejected criticism that they have an advantage over other competitors and implied they might consider quitting their government positions once the Royal Decree is issued.
