Firearms and drugs seized in tourist hotspots

Large amounts of firearms and drugs have been seized this month in southern Thailand, police in Mai Khao announced on Wednesday.
Region 8 Deputy Commander Maj Gen Wanchai Eaksorapit said: “There has been a major crackdown this month in Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Chumphon, Ranong, Krabi, Phang Nga and Phuket.
“Ninety-three suspects have been arrested and 142 firearms seized.
“Officers arrested 559 drug suspects with a total of 91,650 methamphetamine pills, 1.5kg of crystal meth [ice], 36.9kg of marijuana and 856.5kg of kratom leaves.
“We are continuing to crackdown on illegal firearms and drugs,” Wanchai added.
