NBTC launches free apps to improve mobile-phone security

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has invited people to use its applications tailored to improve mobile security.

NBTC deputy secretary-general Korkij Danchaivichit said this week that the commission has developed six applications that will help mobile-phone users stay safe from threats and scammers when browsing the internet or doing banking transactions. These apps, which are available for free, are:
➤ “Preutimart”, an app that logs your mobile-phone usage behaviours and compiles into statistical data that can be used for usage planning and policy research.
➤ “NetCare”, an app that restricts unsuitable online content for children and adolescents.
➤ “Oliang”, an app for publishing articles on competitiveness boosting and knowledge sharing across various academic topics.
➤ “MoCheck”, an app for checking the quality and safety standards of mobile phones according to NBTC regulations.
➤ “KanKuan”, an app that blocks disturbances from undesired numbers.
➤ “3 Chan”, an app that allows phone owners to lock their numbers remotely to prevent SIM card registration using fake or duplicate ID. This app works well with “2 Chae” app that will verify the identity of a SIM card buyer with the database of registered users.
“This year NBTC is planning to release more apps to serve mobile-phone users in wider aspects, such as checking suitable mobile data package and providing electronic ID cards and secure log-in to public Wi-Fi,” he said. “We are collaborating with related agencies and more than 1,000 testers in fine tuning these apps to provide the best features.”
