Director of Khao Kheow Zoo, Attapon Srihayrun said the zoo was one of the areas most-prone to drought.
“Currently, the high temperature is having an impact on the animals. We have drilled five more artesian wells to boost water supply until the rainy season arrives”.
Attapon said he had ordered staff responsible for the exhibition area to mitigate the heat level, such as using sprinklers to prevent animals from suffering from heat and dehydration.
“Animals in the zoo have diverse needs. Some are not native to Thailand and needed to be monitored closely with sufficient water supply as a priority,” he said.
He added that the zoo might reduce water usage for consumption and plants.
“We will use the water resources in the mountains as reserves,” he added
