Gold price falls as baht rises

The price of gold dropped by Bt50 per baht weight in morning trade today (May 13) due to the baht strengthening, the Gold Traders Association reported.

As of 9.24am, the buying price of a gold bar stood at Bt25,241.40 per baht weight, and the selling price was Bt26,400, while gold ornaments were priced at Bt25,700 and Bt25,900, respectively.
The Gold Spot Index price this morning moved to around US$1,703 (Bt54,631.39) per ounce after the price rose by $8.8 to $1,706.8 per ounce at close on Tuesday.
The gold price was supported by the dollar’s weakening, as well as a move back to “safe haven” assets amid concern about a second wave of Covid-19 contagion around the world.
Meanwhile, the gold price in Hong Kong dropped by HK$10 to $15,770 (Bt65,289.90) per tael.
