Thai netizens are rejecting a new ‘Twitter Thailand’ account which debuted recently, out of fear that it might be a tool for the government to monitor them.

Twitter Thailand is designed to be an official platform for an online discussion about every topic in the country on hashtag #WhatsHappening.
However, several Thai netizens feel like it is a tool for the government to violate their privacy. Its launch overlaps privacy laws that were postponed from May 27, 2020, to 2021.
Twitter Thailand now has more than 8,000 members, including Digital Economy and Society Minister Puttipong Punnakanta who had discussed with Twitter executives in the Southeast Asia region about fake news.
Twitter then will help provide correct information to the public via the hashtag #knowthefact on important matters such as Covid-19.
