Police close five routes as protesters eye Sanam Luang due to huge turnout

The Metropolitan Police Bureau has closed five routes around Sanam Luang as the United Front of Thammasat and Demonstration group aimed to seize Sanam Luang to accommodate more protesters.

After the protesters achieved success in invading Thammasat University, they decided to hold a political rally at Sanam Luang instead because the number of protesters had increased.

Pol Maj-General Jirasan Kaewsangek, deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, said the police had closed five routes since 2pm as follows:

Phra Athit Road under Somdet Phra Pinklao Bridge; Pan Pipop Leela Bridge intersection; Chang Rong Si Bridge; Circle in front of the Territorial Defence Command Tha Tien intersection
