Pro-democracy supporters show up to greet protest leaders as they walk out of prison

Supporters of the pro-democracy movement showed up outside the Bangkok Remand Prison on Monday night to greet protest leaders Arnon Nampa, Ekkachai Hongkangwan, Somyot Pruksakasemsuk and Suranat Paenprasert as they walked out.

The four got to taste their freedom again after Criminal Court rejected police request to keep them in custody.

Arnon walked out just after midnight on Tuesday and was greeted with a rose from Tosaporn Sereerak, a former lawmaker and doctor who is usually seen taking care of protesters at rallies.

The human-rights lawyer thanked the supporters, saying he was glad they believed in his fight and that he will use the time spent in prison as training to continue fighting for democracy.

He added that putting leaders in prison did little to dampen the fight for democracy because it only proved that everyone is a leader.

Arnon went on to say he will continue demanding that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha resign, the Constitution be made more democratic and the monarchy reformed.

“If our opposite side demands violence, we will say no. We will fight peacefully to let them know that this fight does not need to end with violence. The reconciliation panel may solve the problems with a frank discussion, but our demands are clear and our release does not mean we can be banned from protesting,” he said.
