Police suggest alternative routes for motorists, pedestrians to avoid protest bottlenecks today

Deputy chief of the Metropolitan Police Bureau Pol Maj-General Jirasan Kaewsangeak said that on Saturday three groups of pro-democracy protesters would hold rallies in some areas of Bangkok, and suggested that motorists and pedestrians avoid certain routes which might be closed or have heavy congestion.
“The Mob Fest group said they will gather at Democracy Monument from 2pm onwards, while the Bad Student and the Women for Freedom and Democracy groups announced they would gather at the Khok Wua intersection in Phra Nakhon district from noon,” he said.
Police expect the following routes to be affected by the protests and therefore should be avoided: Rajdamnoen Avenue, Somdet Phra Pinklao Rd, Wisutkasat Rd, Chakkraphatdi Phong Rd, Lan Luang Rd, Din So Rd, Ta Nao Rd, Rama VIII Bridge and Somdet Phra Pinklao Bridge.
To avoid these routes, police have advised motorists and pedestrians travelling from Phra Nakhon to Thonburi districts to use the Rama IV and Rama VI roads and the Yommarat Expressway, while those traveling from Thonburi to Phra Nakhon districts should use the Boromrat Chonnani Parallel Elevated Road, Phra Pok Klao Bridge, Memorial Bridge and Taksin Bridge.
“The Metropolitan Police Bureau would deploy traffic police around the rally areas to facilitate traffic flow and minimise impact on the public,” he added.
