Over the six days of Songkran – April 10 to 15 – 238 people have been killed and 2,116 injured in 2,113 road accidents.

Speeding was the cause of 31.66 per cent of accidents, followed by drunk driving (29.01 per cent) and cutting lanes (18.17 per cent).

Motorcycles were involved in 86.35 per cent of the accidents, followed by trucks (6.23 per cent) and cars (2.86 per cent).

Nakhon Si Thammarat recorded the highest number of road accidents (91) and the highest number of people getting injured (96), while Chiang Mai had the highest number of deaths (nine).

Eight provinces were reported to be free of Songkran-related road accidents so far.

Up to 313 road accidents on Thursday claimed 29 lives and injured 310 others, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation announced on Friday.
