Hunt on for man planning attack on Myanmar mission

The National Police's Densus 88 counterterrorism unit is hunting for a 23-year-old alleged bomb maker, 'SI', in connection with a plan to bomb the Myanmar Embassy in Jakarta.

“He allegedly helped assemble bombs for the attack,” National Police spokesperson Brig-General Boy Rafli Amar said on Monday in Jakarta.
Amar said that SI, along with two suspects – Sefa Riano, 28, and Achmad Taufiq, 29 – is believed to have made five bombs to attack the embassy in retaliation against persecution of the Rohingya.
Sefa and Achmad were apprehended on Thursday in Jakarta with five bombs in their possession.
Soon after the arrest, the counter-terrorism squad questioned Sefa’s wife, Syaripah, and searched his house where they found chemical substances, batteries and bullets.
Amar played down rumours saying that the three suspects were linked to major terror cells. “They have no criminal records. This is the first time they committed a criminal act,” he said.
