Japan's prime minister to visit Cambodia in October

Prime Minster Shinzo Abe has decided to visit Cambodia in October as part of his effort to strengthen Japan's relationships with Asean countries, according to Kyodo News Agency.

The Kyodo News Agency reported on Sunday that he would visit Laos and Cambodia possibly mid-October.
The Kyodo News Agency added that the premier is set to visit Brunei in early October to attend a summit meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
Abe plans to convene a Japan-Asean special meeting in Tokyo in December, the first time the gathering has been held in the Japanese capital in 10 years.
The meeting will demonstrate his stance to put importance on deepening relationships with Asean countries, according to the source.
The meeting is also aimed at keeping in check China, which has become increasingly assertive in the East China and South China seas.
