Loikaw-Mae Hong Son road to boost tourism

Trade and tourism prospects are set to rise thanks to the construction of the Loikaw- Mae Hong Son road project, officials say.

The road is called “the forever road” as it is regarded as a friendship connector Myanmar and Thailand. Once completed, it will take only four hours to get from Loikaw to Mae Hong Son Province in Thailand.
The two countries recently signed the construction project.
“Four districts from the Myanmar side and four from Thailand will be involved in the project. A delegation team from Thailand will visit Myanmar in June for construction of the road. In my opinion, this road is mainly for tourism,” said Dr. Kyi Lin, Chairman of Taunggyi Hotel Zone.
Among the tourists who have visited Myanmar, Thai nationals are among the majority. And due to the recent opening of new border gates, visits from other nations have also increased.
Following completion of the “forever road” project, Kayah State stands to benefit greatly from tourism, officials said. The region is one of several states undergoing preparations to make it attractive to foreign tourists.
Located in the western part of Myanmar, Kayah State, which was called “Gantarayati” in the past, it is bordered by Shan State in the north, Kayin State in the south and west, and Thailand’s Mae Hong Son Province. Loikaw is the state’s capital city.
The River Thanlwin, originating in China, passes through the eastern part of the state. There are several notable towns, including Dmawsoe, Pharsaung, Bawlakae, Shartaw and Maeseanan, plus Loikaw, on the westbank of the River Thanlwin.
The state is also a very peaceful place to live with many beautiful natural sites. Agriculture remains as the state’s main area of business.
