The voter lists were released nationwide on the day.
Some voters in Yangon said they have difficulties locating their names on the lists, and some who applied to have their names included or to correct their personal information on previous lists saw no change.
“Our family has seven members. Three of us found errors in our personal information on the list. My national registration card number is wrong again. Previously, I applied to correct it. But it’s still not corrected,” said Zaw Min, a voter from Hlaing Township, Yangon Region.
Another voter from the same township said his information, such as his father’s name, was wrong on the lists.
Kyaw Zin Win from Kamayut Township said: “My family has three eligible voters. But the final list does not include one of them. That one was also not included in the previous list. We have submitted Form No 3 to correct it.”
Voters also say it is a hassle to locate their names on the alphabetically ordered lists, which contain millions of names.
Mandalay Region added more than 100,000 eligible voters to the final version of its list, bringing its total number of eligible voters above 4.1 million, according to the regional election commission.
Voters in Ayelar village in Nay Pyi Taw also reported missing names, including those of people who were included in previous lists.
“The previous list included our names, but the final list does not. Some of my family members who applied to have their names added are still not included,” said resident Maung Shwe.
“The final lists include those who applied to have their information corrected. I think there would be more corrections if more people came to see the lists. I’m glad to hear the people are very interested,” said Kyaw Nyunt, chairman of the Pyay District election commission.
Many voters in Pakkoku District reported errors in their national registration card numbers.
“Many people came to see the lists. We mostly found national registration card number errors. It is annoying to locate them as the names are listed alphabetically,” said Ye Tun, a voter list inspector from Pauk Township.
The final lists will be on public display until September 27. The period is expected to be extended in areas affected by recent flooding.
