But does he abuse his power? Not according to his wife Lamnao. Fearing for his safety, she's warned him to not overdo things.
"Why are you afraid? It was more dangerous when I was not in the government and now I'm the deputy PM so that should be a safer position," he told his wife who finally exclaimed, "Oh, sorry I forgot that."
Yet Chalerm does aim to take extra steps to secure the roads leading to his home in Bangkok's Bang Khunthien district, where he's receiving an increasing number of visitors seeking favours. But he might not want to see everyone. So he's thinking of developing a screening system for the guards at his gate.
"I want to make a pass card for visitors to my house and in that way I can manage who can come and see me at home."
If you have a pass, you're free to enter, and if not, you're out of luck.
Ped loves seeing red
Leading makeup artist Apichart "Ped" Norasethaporn is glad to see more Thai women wearing bold red lipstick after he repeatedly encouraged them to go for it.
"The red colour helps enhance the feminine look, but most Thais associate the very red colour with sassy behaviour and therefore a few people use it," he told Lips magazine.
When it comes to cosmetics, Ped says it's wrong to not explore new ideas.
"Makeup is not something permanent. You can always remove it. Dare to do something different. Don't just follow what others do," he exorts.
Ped hates the way Thailand's trend-following women end up looking the same.
"Now going for plastic surgery in Korea is a trend. Everyone spends through their nose."
Instead, Thai women should go for something new and try to be leaders.
"I think they lack the leadership character," he says.
