Need some speed?

To improve performance of a digital camera or camcorder, you need a fast memory card.

If your camera or handy cam is a Sony model, you may need a fast Sony-brand memory card, such as the Memory Stick Pro-HG Duo MS-HX8B.

A fast memory card allows the camera to store the recorded pictures fast and thus free its buffer memory for taking more pictures.

I tested the MS-HX8B with the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX30 camera. The memory card did not slow down the camera during the test.

Sony measures the data transfer rate of the MS-HX8B at 50 Mb per second. But I tested the card's read and write speeds using the CrystalDiskMark 3.0.1 program.

I tested reading and writing of a 1 gigabyte file with the card and found that it scored 34.70 MB/s for reading and 23.65 MB/s for writing.

Best of all, buyers of MS-HX8B can download two useful applications from Sony Thai. The first application is X-Pics Story for creating slide shows from photos. The second application is AVCHD File Rescue for recovering photos and video files you may have accidentally deleted from the card.

The Memory Stick Pro-HG Duo MS-HX8B with storage of 8 gigabytes retails for Bt1,290 with a 10-year warranty.
