Suwat first Thai elected to ITF board

Francesco Ricci Bitti was yesterday unanimously voted the International Tennis Federation (ITF) president, with Thai tennis boss Suwat Liptapanlop joining him on the executive board.

The Italian won the presidential vote unopposed at the ITF annual general meeting. It is his fourth consecutive term.

Suwat, the Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand president, was voted one of the members to the ITF board. He will be the only Asian on the board, after winning 248 out of 333 votes.

"It's a good opportunity that we have a representative from Thailand in the board. It should enhance our chance to have both coach and player-exchange programmes and get approval for more tournaments," said Suwat, the first Thai to make it to the ITF board. The ITF hosted a thank-you party for assembly members in the evening at Government House, joined by PM Yingluck Shinawatra.
