Pheu Thai

Re:

Dear Khun Burin, I support a first-car tax rebate because I want young people to enjoy what I lacked when I was young. I believe that we only live once and we should indulge ourselves whenever we can, especially with the looming 2012 apocalypse as predicted by the ancient Mayans.
You suggested that “the policies should benefit the most people possible, especially the poor.” Of course, they do. Pheu Thai’s policies also include a Bt300 minimum wage, farmers’ subsidies, a Bt15,000 salary [for graduates] and a tax write-off for first-time home-buyers. As you can see, they benefit people of various financial standings, including the poor. Only the rich are left out; but they must learn to give, for “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (The Bible, Acts 20:35).
Meanwhile, you mentioned Korn Chatigavanij in your letter, which brings back a fond memory. After taking office as finance minister, he caused quite a stir when he proposed implementation of inheritance tax, something no Thai politician even dares to think of, let alone advocate. He brilliantly stated that 99.9 per cent of Thais would be exempt from it. I remember I was in tears and I said to myself, wow, the Saviour finally arrives! Hallelujah! But that was the last time I heard about inheritance tax.
