Energies of the colours

Aura Soma therapy claims to rebalance spiritual and emotional wellbeing

Close your eyes and relax. Inhale then exhale. As you exhale, imagine that you are breathing out the colour black from out body. Black represents stress, anger and frustration. Now imagine you are in a large field with a small house at the far end. You enter the house and see a stunningly beautiful coloured bottle. You imagine yourself soaking in the water in the bottle.

“Whenever you feel stressful, bring to mind any colour you like for one minute. This is a kind of meditation,” says Chanettee “Fah” Thanachaiary, senior instructor and head of holistic therapy at Chiva-Som International Health Resort. “Colour can support us. It means you need that particular colour at that moment,” explains Fah.

Fah used to work as a physiotherapist but didn’t like the hospital atmosphere. She went on to study herbal and nutritional medicine and earned advanced diplomas from the Australasian College of Natural Therapies in Sydney. While there, she came across Aura Soma therapy and fell in love with the concept.

After learning about the colours as Aura-Soma level 1 practitioner, Fah brought the colourful water bottles back to Thailand in the hope to introducing them to Thai people.

A wide array of colourful water bottles displayed at a workshop by Fah attracted the attention of participants. Each Equilibrium Bottle, as they are known individually, contains a layer of coloured oil on top of a layer of coloured water containing all natural herbal extracts and crystals with unique essential oils. The bottles are selected by individuals and are said to reveal inner feelings of those individuals – reflecting the person’s end purpose, talents and challenges. They are said to restore trust or to help rebalance states of health, harmony, and peace.

Aura Soma remedies were developed by Vicky Wall, an English chiropodist who acquired psychic powers after going blind in 1984 and began to concoct each Equilibrium bottle. For Wall, equilibrium was a mirror to the soul enabling the individual to recognise in their colour choices the reflection of their deeper aspects, says Fah.

“Aura means colour and soma means self. It differs from fortune telling because it reflects who you are. How does showing the real you benefit the rest of your life? Sometimes we know who we really are but lack confidence. Sometimes we feel confident in the wrong way. Aura Soma can restore trust in yourself and bring out your potential for utmost benefits. It may sound small like listening to your inner self but this is a good beginning,” says Fah, stressing that her work is not to predict the future but just to interpret the language of colours.

When questioned, all the participants at the workshop confirmed they’d never heard about Aura Soma before. A young man picked a bottle with turquoise at the top and violet at the bottom. Fah interpreted his choice, saying that turquoise represents communication ability while violet symbolises spirituality.

“Sometimes you feel someone guiding you to say or do something,” Fah said. The young man looked surprised and replied he knew he had six senses but did not know how to utilise them to benefit others. “Try to notice yourself. Whenever you sense them, act accordingly,” was Fah’s advice.

Of her first Aura Soma experience, Fah says, “I chose a bottle that was clear at the top and turquoise at the bottom. I bought the bottle and during that time I felt very emotional. I found myself often in tears. After crying, I felt a lot better. It was really like a time of emotional detox.”
