Suthichai Yoon rightly draws our attention to, no doubt, only the first of a series of moves that this government will take to throttle the free press. This amendment to the Printing Act 2007 is inexcusable and screams in the loudest terms their intention to muzzle the press. No doubt, the well-known adage “Thaksin thinks, Pheu Thai acts” is in play here. The fugitive’s fear of a free press is well known, as were his attempts to emasculate it when in power.
Having maneouvred his puppet into the post of police chief, the scene is set for the hounding of the press to begin. Dark days indeed lie ahead as these false prophets of democracy tighten their grip and begin their tyrannical rule in earnest.
