New York duo Fischerspooner returns to Bed Supperclub next week with a promise to hype up the Bangkok crowd.
Known for their avant garde performances and music videos, Warren Fischer and Casey Spooner cross the boundaries between music, fashion, art and dance like no one else. Folks who witnessed their extravagant act last time will testify to that. If you don’t want to miss out on good acts that rarely grace Bangkok’s venues, don’t make the same mistake twice.
The electro clash duo and performance troupe formed in 1998 in New York. The name is a portmanteau of the founders’ last names, Fischer and Spooner. Spiking retro electro pop tendencies which many find similar to Kraftwerk, early Pet Shop Boys, and Gary Numan, Fischerspooner tones it up and make it more modern through the use of heavy programming.
Formed by the classically trained Fischer and video-artist and experimental theatre performer Spooner for an impromptu rendition of their makeshift track “Indian Cab Driver” at the Astor Place Starbucks, the group has grown from two to more than 20 performers, most of them dancers and guest vocalists.
Their debut album, “#1”, has been released on several record labels, including International DJ Gigolo, Ministry of Sound and Capitol Records, and includes their hit singles “Sweetness”, “Emerge”, and a cover of Wire’s “The 15th”. In the final months of 2004, Fischerspooner opened up their FS Studios in New York City to the public for a few hours once a week, allowing people to meet the band and production team, as well as preview new video, music and dance projects that they were working on.
In 2005, “Odyssey”, the band’s second album, was released to critical acclaim. The album featured more structured songs that weren’t really electro clash, but more accurately electro pop. Their latest full-length studio album, “Entertainment” came out in 2009. The album was produced by Jeff Saltzman who previously worked with The Killers, The Black Keys and The Sounds.
Their notable hits include “Just Let Go”, “All We Are”, “A Kick In The Teeth” and their remix album “The Best Revenge”, on which they revamped songs by the likes of Autokratz, Tocadisco, Alex Gopher, The Passions and Tony Senghore.
The group’s second live DJ set at Bed Supperclub is supported by the club’s resident DJ Vincent.
