Sucre has sweets to suit you

This lively bistro by the cinemas does amazing crepes

If you’ve been to the movies at Paragon Cineplex lately, you probably noticed the aroma of crispy crepes and spicy Mexican dishes. You probably also felt compelled to investigate and discovered Sucre.

The Siam Paragon restaurant whose name means “sugar” in French is owned by celebrated chef Pongtawat Chalermkittichai and his friends. It just opened two months ago, all playful pinks on black and as jazzy as a circus.

It’s furnished with colourful sofas and tables for 50 diners, but attention is riveted on the open pantry where the cooks make those lovely crepes right before your eyes. The menu is full of easy-to-eat Mexican and Italian dishes.

The best sellers at lunch include Chocolate Ribs served in a mesquite-smoked sauce (Bt130), a big plate of delectable Classic Crepes stuffed with ham, mushrooms and mozzarella in Bechamel sauce (Bt180) and East Meets Cheese, which is spicy minced duck engulfed in spaghetti with a Parmesan-cheese dressing (Bt185).

They’re all great, but so are the Chilli Crepe stuffed with smoky, spicy Mexican pork, Seafood Wasabi and Spaghetti Carbonara with moo yor (a Thai pork mortadella) in fresh double-cream sauce.

“These are dishes you can cook in five minutes,” says manager Bunpote Thrammasron. “We’re aiming at young people and office workers mostly.”

For your daily sucre needs, Sucre presents a range of sweet crepes stuffed with fresh fruit and served with a vanilla ice cream.

You shouldn’t miss the scrumptious Strawberry Chocolate Mousse Crepe (Bt160) or the Banoffe Crepe made with banana, praline cream, nuts and caramel sauce.

Then there’s Mango Passion, Apple Crumble and Peach Rum Crepes, and how about hot Green Tea Chocolate Lava with vanilla ice cream (Bt130)?

For drinks, there’s a Mixed Berry Yoghurt Smoothie and a Chocolate Brownie Frappe, each priced at Bt110.
