Thankfully we needn’t cancel the forthcoming tourist season. For the record, here is what Thailand has learnt from this episode: Someone in this government is absolutely determined to find a way to bring Thaksin back despite the consequences. The government evidently can’t seem to agree on whether or not it is planning to pardon Thaksin. Our prime minister hasn’t a clue what’s going on inside her own Cabinet sometimes. Key leaders of this country sometime lie blatantly to us. Furthermore, controversial matters of national interest are dealt with behind closed doors by this leadership. Also, real moves to pardon Thaksin are likely to be met with fierce opposition. Almost half the people in this country are against a Thaksin pardon, while a third support it. And lastly, if we have another natural crisis, don’t count on the government making it the one and only priority. All this is really useful to consider the next time we go to an election.
