I sincerely apologise to those who feel bloated by the BBC topic. However, we get the media we deserve and, unlike John L Sheppard (yes, we are two different people), I can’t think of a much more important issue to “gripe about”.
Ken Malcolm freely chose to leave our BBC group in February, so he is out of touch with the way the campaign has progressed since then. If he had stuck with us (his sharp, pertinent points were always valued) he would be in a much better position to argue the facts. Mr Malcolm is absolutely wrong in stating that our list of “truths is pure opinion”. For example, “...the BBC issued an apology to the government...” are the words of Sarah Ward-Lilley, deputy head of Newsgathering at the BBC, and I am in possession of a DVD that contains an inaccurately translated broadcast interview. To avoid further argument and lengthy explanation, I am happy to hand over our entire campaign files to the editor of The Nation to use as he sees fit. In any case, we intend putting it all online in due course.
