Politically correct spoilsports

What a load of nonsense that [football] players are now being punished for what they say on the field.

Football is a robust, highly emotional sport, and players say and do things in the heat of the moment, which they sometimes regret. At the end of the game, they shake hands and get ready for the next time.
Can we now expect the police to come on the field and arrest a player for what they deem is a crime? Whatever happened to the prime rule of the game: leave it to the referee and his linesmen?
