Eight-time tour winner Azarenka is due to take on world No 1 Caroline Wozniacki in the World Tennis Charity Invitation at the Hua Hin Centennial Park at 5pm on January 1. Isner, who is here with his girlfriend Madison McKinley, is to face former world No 9 Paradorn Srichaphan following the women’s match.
While Azarenka is making her first appearance in Thailand, the 26-year-old Isner is a more familiar face to local tennis fans after playing in the Thailand Open a few years ago.
“I always want to come back and play in Thailand. I have a lot of nice fans here and I would like to thank them for their support. I have many plans for the Hua Hin trip,’’ said the 2.06metre-tall American, who will try his hand at pottery on January 2.
Today, Wozniacki will lead the players in a treeplanting activity for His Majesty the King’s Development Project at Hua Hin’s Ban Nong Hieng, to be presided over by Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand president Suwat Liptapanlop.
When she’s done with the spadework, the world No 1 will accompany her boyfriend and world No 3 golfer Rory McIlroy for a 90minute massage at the Spa InterContinental.
