Romney-Paul ticket could unseat Obama

Re: "Will Palin be a better match for Romney?", Letters, January 15.

As I began my political interests as a Young Republican under California Governor Ronald Reagan, and as I voted Republican more often than Democrat in the US, Richard Bowler’s comments about Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney piqued my interest.
Sarah Palin as a Republican vice-presidential candidate is, of course, a joke – as I am sure Mr Bowler meant it as such – but the Ron Paul element in the contest should not be belittled, as is often done by the US media. As it stands, Romney is the front-runner for the Republicans and Paul is in second place, and some analysts believe that Paul could possibly overtake Romney.
Romney has conservative-mainstream appeal and could easily get 50 per cent of the US votes in November, while Paul is scooping up the former core constituency of President Obama, left and right: therefore, a Romney-Paul or Paul-Romney ticket could get 60 per cent or more of the vote in November.
US voters have grown weary of image rather than substance in the White House, and his efforts to be right-wing and liberal at the same time have left Obama perceived as being “neither fish nor fowl” by his former supporters.
Look for Democrats to lose in November in the US, just as former Democrat President Jimmy Carter lost in 1980.
