A new international restaurant opens in a community mall designed for the family
The latest addition to community mall Shelter 1 Acre on Kaset-Nawamin Road, Mellow Wine & Dine Restaurant joins a boutique corner for children and Hungry Eatery serving easy-to-eat dishes, home-made pastries and coffee.
The property belongs to architect Taspon and his wife interior designer Kantima Thanyawong, who’ve designed Shelter 1 Acre as a hangout for families on the weekends. Mellow, which focuses more on the grown-ups, opened earlier this month and offers a range of international dishes and desserts, plus more than 50 wines from around the world.
Decorated in a modern-contemporary style, it offers seating both indoors and al-fresco to accommodate about 170 diners. Smooth jazz and bossa nova plays quietly in the background and the lighting is kept low
“We want to build a community for every lifestyle. We have a boutique for children, Hungry Eatery serves plenty of dishes during the day and Mellow will be a new hangout at night,” says Taspon. “We plan to open a karaoke zone and bar on the second floor soon.”
The kitchen comes under the responsibility of Kantima, who makes sauces to special recipes as well as fettuccini with potato, spinach and black squid ink. She never uses monosodium glutamate but insists on chicken and beef stock in preparing wholesome and healthy menus.
The wines are imported from Argentina, Italy, Chile, Australia and France and prices range from Bt800 to Bt6,000.
Before dinner, order one of Taspon’s cocktails and mocktails. Options include a black pearl made from red grenadine, a kahlua cointreau for Bt149, a Cinderella, which is a blend of blue grenadine, orange juice, pineapple juice and soda for Bt95 and an OMG!, made with rum, orange juice, triple sec and pineapple juice for Bt149.
Well worth ordering is the duck confit with red wine vinegar dressing (Bt240), which pairs well with the bistro salad served with fried bacon and boiled eggs in orange-white wine sauce (Bt180). Other must tries are the spinach fettuccini with salmon and pesto sauce (Bt200), crispy fried squid calamari with tartar sauce for Bt150 and the spicy tenderloin spicy salad (Bt240).
End your meal with a luscious rich chocolate soft fudge served with a scoop of chocolate ice cream for Bt170 or delicious berry triple-sliced fruits mixed with custard, brandy and whipping cream for Bt120.
