What heaven is like

Maybe you have something else to do on Valentine’s Day (wink, wink). That’s okay because the Valentine treats at the Dusit Thani Hotel’s Devarana Spa are on offer until the end of the month.

Devarana – you pronounce it “te-wa-RUN” – gets its name from the beautiful garden in heaven described in classical Siamese literature. The spa seeks to match that glory, with flowing water, airy white decor, perpetual daylight and the angelic music of strings and woodwinds.

Minimal yet luxurious, the spa is an elegant and modern take on venerable Thai architectural and metaphysical concepts.

It begins with a sensual milk bath dappled with flower petals that let you send an amorous message.

Choose one of the nine different flowers listed on the menu according to the symbolism associated with it. Red carnations will tell your lover, “I’m strong and capable, and yet my heart aches for you.” Pink roses would say, “I’m the happiest person in the world simply being with you.” It gets a little sugary, but it’s fun!

After your fragrant bath, a 60-minute Swedish oil massage awaits. A suitable oil will be recommended, quite possibly a blend called Mellow, which mingles evening primrose, lavender, camomile and rose.

The massage includes random traditional Thai techniques and leaves you totally relaxed. The pressure is carefully controlled, soft to medium, which is most welcome after a long, hot bath.
The Love Floral Spa Ritual treatment costs Bt2,900, or Bt5,200 per couple.

Also recommended anytime at the Deravana is the Heavenly Nantha Garden Experience for Bt4,900, which is two and a half soothing hours combining bath, body scrub and massage. The essences of four Thai flowers are used – ylang ylang, pink lotus, champaca and jasmine.

Then there are the Mangosteen Peel Body Scrub (Bt2,100), the Blue Lotus Aloe Wrap (Bt2,800), the Ayurvedic Head Massage (Bt2,000), the Aromatic Detoxified and Contoured Massage (Bt2,800) and the Harmony of Tad (Bt2,800), which uses traditional Thai medicine to rebalance your inner energy.
