Global warming, climate change not the same

Re: Shouting doesn't change facts on climate, January 29.

Last Sunday Thomas Turk defended his views on global warming denial by confusing it with climate change. He seems to think that the two are interchangeable terms introduced by scientists to cloud the issue. This shows either a great ignorance of the subject, or a desire to misinform and confuse.
Global warming and climate change are not the same. One causes the other, one is an overall global trend, the other is driven in many directions by the former. Colder winters in some countries are examples of climate change and are totally consistent with global warming.
It is Mr Turk and his ilk, not the scientific community, who use these terms to make things cloudy. They point to localised instances around the world (climate change) and use them to claim that global warming is a myth.
