Hot on the chocolate scent

People with a nose for dessert (you know who you are) have no trouble tracking down Sweet Hound in the J-Avenue community mall on Soi Thonglor. Their reward is hot waffles, crepes, parfait and sherbet ice creams, plus a choice of healthy drinks, as if to make amends.

The Greyhound Cafe, which has been serving a fusion of Western and Asian dishes for more than a decade, opened Sweet Hound two years ago, inspired by Parisian patisseries.

Creative director Bhanu Inkawat and young Cordon Bleu pastry chef Apichit Sastri dream up the luscious treats for the |little black-walled bakery with black tables and white chairs |and sofas.

The main attraction is the open pantry, where you can watch the staff prepare your dessert and beverages. Around 50 tempting dishes are made with fruit and other fresh ingredients from a local market.

Most customers go for the high-fashion waffles with their diversity of dressings. Sample the Hot Velvet Red Waffle mixed with cranberries and served with whipped cream and fresh strawberries, or the Banana Waffle topped with grated cheddar cheese.

There are four new additions to the menu this month. The Bt110 Walnut Blondie is a chocolate brownie served with vanilla ice cream, butterscotch and fresh vanilla cream. The Bt120 creme brulee is topped with a sliced strawberry.

Chocoholics will truly love the Bt140 Sea Salt Caramel Chocolate Cake, also served with fresh vanilla cream, and the lovely Flourless Chocolate Cake for Bt100, made with bittersweet chocolate and raspberries, again accompanied by vanilla cream and a strawberry, all in a raspberry sauce.

Then there’s Layered Mixed Berries and Chocolate Banana Crepe Cakes and Sticky Rice+Mango served with coconut ice cream. Chocolate Lover Parfait is chocolate ice cream served with Ferrero Rocher chocolate, picco, a brownie and corn flakes in a chocolate sauce.
