I never said anything of the sort. I was simply responding to Edwin Wiek’s comments, which speculated that SOME elephants at the camps might have been kidnapped from the wild.
But my major concern is domestic elephants. As I noted in an even earlier letter, when I was at the Elephant Nature Park they showed us a film of baby elephants being horribly tortured for days and there was nothing to be done about it because there are no laws to protect domestic elephants.
Several years ago there was a bill pending before the Thai legislature which would have made it illegal to beat elephants or make them perform unnatural acts. That the bill was not considered important enough to even vote on it – it eventually died – can be seen as further proof that nothing is being done to protect these poor creatures.
If Ewa really cares about the elephants, instead of taking pot-shots at me, why doesn’t she do something about the endless atrocities that are legally and routinely being committed against baby elephants?
