Designer Milin Yuvacharuskul gets inspired by the London Olympics for her new spring and summer collection

Backstage at Centre Point LaSalle studio, it’s chaos. Models are being made up, hair is being fluffed up and teased into style and dressers run around with pins ready to save the day. Seconds later, the mannequins glide out on to the catwalk looking wonderfully calm. Welcome to the showing of “Milin’s Round About” spring and summer collection 2012 at last week’s “Elle Fashion Uncensored by Tresemme”.
Thanks to the “See-through Scrim” technique, fashionistas were allowed a rare glimpse of what happens behind the scenes, as well as how renowned hair stylist from South Korean, Shin Dong Min, brand ambassador of Tresemme hair care products, does the models’ hair. Shin Dong Min doesn’t
just do fashion shows: he’s also worked closely with such Korean pop sensations as Kara, Tiara, Shinne, Super Junior, Lee Min-jung, Kang Su-Yeon, Kim He-su, and many more.
The Milin label is known for “bringing sexy back” and the sensuality of the brand’s designs lie in the complexity of elements put together, with contrasting textures and subtle yet whimsical prints. Milin embraces the versatility of a day-to-night outfit that sums up a “work hard play harder” lifestyle.
This summer, fans of Milin Yuvacharuskul and her team, Guarboon Chuanboon, and Puchong Nilratana, won’t be disappointed. With the London Olympic Games coming up, they’ve opted for sporty elegance.
“Gymnastics is a sport full of elegant and graceful movement. It requires years to achieve perfection,” says Milin. “I love the sexiness, the flexibility and the fun.
Milin’s collection revises the traditional gymnastics costume. She applies an edgy touch to luxury fabrics with eye-catching colours that will enhance the image of the wearer. Milin also chooses a tight skin-fit cutting style, adding curves on the costume with patchwork to enhance sexiness and finishing with a matching, multi-layered flared skirt for a flattering look.
Sportswear-style decorative details are also there and include a well-hidden zipper on the dress and trimming along the edge of blouses decorated with vivid stretch elastic. Meanwhile, the centrepiece like shorts have also been adjusted to better fit the wearer.
There’s a wide variety of fabrics and dresses with extra-short front patchwork and long-rear patchwork. Piling up layers of fabric to create new dimensions for short dresses, suits, and jackets gives the collection a more geometrical style. Long evening gowns are topped up with details for more luxury.
Gauze is pierced using a laser cut technique to create a circular pattern while fishnet fabric and a newly printed fabric play with gymnastic-inspired patterns such as ribbon, clubs, hoops and balls. Ribbons are embroidered on beautiful gowns and translucent wand-shape plastic decorates shirttails and the hems of skirts.
The colour palette matches summer with shades that include mandarin orange, cherry-pink, salmon-pink, butter-yellow, vivid blue, and mint-green, cut with soft natural-like colours like Champagne-pink, beige, light blue and white grey.
Accessories add to the elegance with new pointed toe high-heels, a favourite with Milin fans, in synthetically colourful leather blended with various shades of natural leather. New earrings feature colourful plastic on the ring-shape matching the main pattern of the collection.
