Somsak Pola is no fan of Abhisit Vejjajiva, that much is certain, but the southern region is a bastion of the Democrat Party, and if the former prime minister should fail to show up to boost the morale of the people in distress there, then it would be a gross negligence of responsibility on his part. The man was doing his duty as a representative of the people.
It is always easy to find fault with people whom you dislike, and if you do it every day, something is bound to surface. But is it fair [to criticise Abhisit for this] when the national interests, not Abhisit’s, are at stake?
Abhisit, as a public person, can never fight back nor answer [letter-writers’] criticisms. Of course, it is the price he must pay if he wants to be the “man of all the people”. I see nothing wrong in him wearing a T-shirt that declared “Yala people don’t want bombs.” Who does?
It is time for Somsak to state the not-so-obvious, so that all of us know where he stands on the crisis that is splitting Thailand asunder as a nation.
