Among the highlights this season are Athens-born Mary Katrantzou’s vivid, textile-rich collection and India’s Manish Arora with a debut “Femme Lumiere” line for Paco Rabanne in metallic navy blue and silver.
Paris-based American Rick Owens offers long, chic black-and-white dresses inspired by the billowing robes of the pope. Movie-star twins Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen of the Row delve into loose, tribal-theme white and creamy togs that fit the hot season perfectly.
There’s also Balmain, Dries Van Noten, Junya Watanabe, Issey Miyake, Jil Sander, Phillip Lim and Yohji Yamamoto at Club 21 on the second floor of the Erawan Bangkok.
Toy time
Pop illustrator ML Chratorn Chrapra-vati’s cute child-like portraits adorn T-shirts, coffee mugs and Vox mobile phones, and now he’s designed a summer line of Toy Watches.
You’ll see his kids on the quartz of the dial, the plastic-ceramic case and the strap, in grey, black, white, amethyst, pink, violet and three shades of blue.
Only 100 watches will be made, each selling for Bt8,900 at the Toy Watch store at CentralWorld and its counters in other leading department stores.
Gifts for the garden
British designer Barbara Barry’s “Bowmont Outdoor” collection of garden furniture – named for the street where she lives – is available at the Barbara Barry showroom at Siam Paragon, courtesy of importer Chanintr Living Thailand.
There are 10 pieces – dining chairs and tables, armchairs, side tables and a settee made of 80-per-cent-recycled powdered aluminium, and a birdbath and Nautilus table in ceramic handcrafted by Native Americans in the US Pacific Northwest.
You might think you don’t need a birdbath, but the birds beg to differ, and once you see this funky piece with its fired-glaze finish, artful bronze perch and hand etching, you’ll change your mind. Find out more at (02) 129 4577.
