The newly renovated Roof Hideaway – the rooftop restaurant at Muse Thonglor – is impressing guests with its more spacious seating area, contemporary and natural design and delicious fusion food.
“Some customers have liked the design so much they even ask for permission to copy it for their own hilltop homes,” says Suraphan Chaopaknam who, along with fellow actors Boromwut “Micky” Hiranyatsathiti, Karunpon “Petch” Tiansuwan and Yossinee “Ja” Nanakorn, runs the eatery they describe simply as “airy and comfortable”.
The renovated restaurant is completely different from its last incarnation, which featured a Zen rock garden, a glass room with house music and the office. Located on the third and fourth floor and above the Muse pub, Roof Hideaway has a distinctive loft style. Wood dominates and the earth tones contrast with the fresh atmosphere given off by the vertical garden with waterfall and artificial turf.
The third floor has a long wine bar that’s ideal for chilling out either alone or with a friend or lover. The wine list has the world covered, with bottles from Italy, France, Spain, Chile, Australia and South Africa as well as signature cocktails such as Red Opera (Bt250) – mixed red wine with fresh orange and grapefruit – and Spheres (Bt270), mixed peach with honey, rum and molecular caviar in a flute.
The space between the third and fourth floors is open to the stars and the fourth floor is home to a karaoke function room with space for 15-20 people, as well as a sushi bar. Suraphan, who is shooting Channel 3’s new TV sitcom “Rak Kerd Nai Talad Sod”, says he’s planning to install a sliding roof to cope with the rainy season.
The menu features more than 100 dishes, a mix of Thai, Japanese-American fusion food and European treats, among them a Foie Gras Burger with Beetroot and Braised Cheek (Bt320) – seared foie gras and beetroot on a slice of braised veal cheek served on a wheat bun. Poached Egg on Macaroni and Cheese (Bt180) – creamy poached egg served over macaroni and cheese with a smoky sauce – is also popular.
Other recommendations are Tiger Prawns in Brandy (Bt290) served with linguine and Cool Tuna and Angel Hair Pasta (Bt220), which comes with lemon and sake ponzu and spring onions. Other options are Scallop Sashimi (Bt220), Fried Rice with Shrimp Fat served with Spicy Mango Salad & Deep-fried Sea Bass (Bt185) and Spicy & Sour Squid Soup (Bt250).
Acoustic live bands play nightly.
“We are like a one-stop service. People begin with dinner before having drinks at the pub. You don’t have to waste time finding another place or even parking. Here, we offer valet parking for 100 cars,” says Suraphan.
