Thongchai quits PGAT to refocus on wilting game

Thongchai Jaidee yesterday resigned as the president of Professional Golf Association of the Thailand, citing personal and health problems as the reasons.

The three-time Asian Tour No 1, who was elected the PGAT boss in March last year, called a press conference at the Royal Thai Army Sports Development Centre yesterday to announce his decision. In a statement, the 43-year-old golfer insisted that professional conflicts were not behind his decision to resign.
“I promise you that my resignation did not come through any conflict among TPGA members or the executive board, as we have set up a systematic platform for pro golfer development programme and continuing TPGA events.
“However, it’s become obvious that my results on the Tour have suffered as a consequence of inadequate practice and rest. I therefore wish to refocus on my duties as a professional and try to produce good results to achieve fame for the country,” said the country’s No 1 golfer.
Thongchai also said that he would seek medical treatment for a back injury that has been bothering him for some time. This season, he has failed to make it in to the top 20 at the six European Tour events in which he has taken part.
Thongchai said he had already submitted his resignation letter to the Sports Authority of Thailand. His resignation makes current administration redundant and requires a new executive board to be set up within 30 days.
