More important election issues

You don't have to agree with President Obama's stance on gay marriage but you do have to applaud his courage in so clearly stating his position in an election year when his opponent has made his opposing views also very clear.

However, what is of concern here is not the issue itself but the fact that such a trivial and insignificant issue could become a political hot potato that could sway some voters in their decision of who becomes the world’s most powerful leader. How insane is that? Have Americans forgotten the catastrophe of Iraq, the present fiasco in Afghanistan, foreign policy and its relation to terrorism, the economy and jobs, all of which have an impact not only on American lives but also on those of us in the rest of the world?
When voters are able to separate their personal beliefs driven by religion from real political issues, then the world will start to be a better place for all.
