Dreaded censors have struck again!
I rely on the Internet to keep in touch with news, views and current affairs from my homeland, Australia. Today a video documentary from the highly respected Australian Broadcasting Commission's "Four Corners" programme caught my eye.
The video was about the latest research in Australia that reveals that not all girls have XX chromosomes and not all boys have XY chromosomes. Some 40,000 Australians are known to have a mix of both XX and XY chromosomes, leading scientists to rethink the role of chromosomes in determining gender.
I clicked on “play” and up popped the notice, “Content Unavailable. This video is not authorised in your location (Thailand)”.
There is no way that this programme could be considered pornographic or unfit for adult viewing. It is about serious scientific and academic research into an intriguing subject. Furthermore, in a country internationally renowned for its ladyboys and transgender people, I would have thought that many Thais would also be interested in the contents of this video.
But that is not to be. The Thai censor beat us to it.
